The Story of Love and Sas
Lovena Fox and Saskia Garel started working together in 1991. Richie Mayer and music producer David Bendeth helped them form the group. David Bendeth worked for BMG Canada, a record company.
Lovena Fox was the main singer. She had worked in musical theater before. She also sang backup for famous artists like Bon Jovi. Saskia Garel was born in Jamaica and moved to Toronto when she was six. She was a very talented singer. She had training in jazz and classical music.
Their First Album
The group released their first album, Call My Name, in 1991. People sometimes compared them to the American rap group Salt-N-Pepa. This album had popular songs like "I Don't Need Yo' Kiss" and "Call My Name". It also featured "Don't Stop Now" and "Once in a Lifetime". Saskia's rap in "I Don't Need Yo' Kiss" was one of the first times a Canadian female artist rapped in a song.

Love and Sas released a second album in 1992 called Once in a Lifetime. Both of their albums won a Juno Award for 'Best R&B Recording'. This was a big achievement for the group.
