History of Lowell
Lowell has a short but interesting history. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, first opened here in 1868. This was an important place for the community to connect. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1905.
Where is Lowell Located?
Lowell is found in the southeastern part of Cherokee County. This area is very close to the very corner of Kansas. To the north of Lowell, you'll find the Spring River. This river flows into the Neosho River.
Right across the Spring River is another community called Riverton. If you travel about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest by road, you will reach the town of Baxter Springs.
