Cotuit Kettleers |
Elizabeth Lowell Park is a famous baseball field in Cotuit, Massachusetts. It is the home field for the Cotuit Kettleers, a team in the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). This park is special because it is one of only three CCBL ballparks that does not have lights for night games.
The land for Lowell Park was given to the town of Barnstable in 1906 by the Lowell family. A school building, called Elizabeth Lowell High School, once stood next to where the field is now. The school was used until the 1920s and was taken down about ten years later. A president of Harvard University, A. Lawrence Lowell, lived in Cotuit. Many other people from Harvard also came to live there, making the village known as "Summer Harvard."

History of Lowell Park
How Lowell Park Began
After the old school building was removed, the area continued to be used as a baseball field. The Cotuit Athletic Association has managed and taken care of the park since the Cotuit Kettleers team started in the late 1940s.
Upgrades and Improvements
Lowell Park has received some important updates over the years. In 2007, a large grant from the Yawkey Foundation helped pay for many improvements. These projects made the park even better for players and fans.
Keeping Lowell Park Green
In 2015, more land around the park was bought. This was done to protect the park's natural look and stop new buildings from being built nearby. This effort was called "Keep Lowell Park Green." Bill Richardson, a former Kettleers pitcher and later a United States Ambassador to the United Nations, supported this campaign. The extra land allowed for a half-mile nature trail to be created at the park in 2021.
A Special Baseball Field
A Beautiful Setting
Lowell Park is often described as a beautiful place, like "a scene right out of a Norman Rockwell painting." It feels like a classic baseball field from a long time ago. The park is surrounded by trees and is close to Cotuit Bay.
Featured in Sports Illustrated
The park's unique setting was even shown in a two-page photo spread in Sports Illustrated magazine. Some people compare it to the famous baseball field in the movie Field of Dreams. Both fields seem to appear magically from the natural landscape around them.
Home of Champions
Lowell Park has seen the Cotuit Kettleers win 17 championships in the Cape Cod Baseball League. This is more than any other team in the league! Many future major league baseball players have played at Lowell Park during their summers. Some of these players include Will Clark, Joe Girardi, and Chase Utley.
