Lower Two Medicine Lake is a beautiful lake found in the state of Montana, United States. It is special because it is located partly inside Glacier National Park. The other part of the lake is on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
About Lower Two Medicine Lake
This lake is naturally formed, meaning it was created by nature. However, it also has a small dam. This dam helps to control the water level of the lake. It also helps to stop floods from happening downstream.
The Lower Two Medicine Dam
The dam on Lower Two Medicine Lake is called the Lower Two Medicine Dam. It is made of earth, like a big mound of dirt. The dam was built in 1967. Its main jobs are to control floods and store water for irrigation. Irrigation means providing water to help crops grow.
The dam can hold a lot of water, up to 25,120 acre-feet. The Bureau of Indian Affairs owns and operates this dam and the water it holds. They make sure it works properly.
Fishing in the Lake
Since part of Lower Two Medicine Lake is on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, there are special rules for fishing. If you want to fish in the eastern half of the lake, you will need a special permit. This permit helps manage the fishing and respect the land of the Blackfeet Nation.
