Lowman Hall is an important old building on the campus of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. It was built a long time ago, in 1917. This building was originally a place where male students lived, like a big house for college students.

A Look at Lowman Hall

Lowman Hall is a three-story building made of brick. It has a special roof that slopes down on all four sides. The building also has parts that stick out on its ends.

The front of Lowman Hall has a grand porch. This porch has four tall, fancy columns. These columns are in a style called "Ionic order," which means they have scroll-like shapes at the top.

A Place of History

Lowman Hall is recognized as a very important historical site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important to history.

The building is also part of a larger group of historic buildings. This group is known as the South Carolina State College Historic District. Being on these lists helps protect Lowman Hall for future generations.
