Lucia Caporaso is an Italian mathematician. She is a professor of mathematics at Roma Tre University in Italy. Lucia was born in Rome on May 22, 1965. She studies advanced topics in math, such as algebraic geometry, arithmetic geometry, tropical geometry, and enumerative geometry.

Her Journey in Mathematics

Lucia Caporaso studied at the Sapienza University of Rome. She earned her first degree, called a laurea, in 1989. After that, she went to Harvard University in the United States. She completed her Ph.D. there in 1993. Her Ph.D. is a very high-level degree in a specific subject. Her main project was about a complex math topic called "Moduli Space of Stable Curves." Her professor, Joe Harris, helped her with this work.

After finishing her studies, Lucia Caporaso worked at several universities. She was a professor at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She also worked as a researcher at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Later, she became a professor at the University of Sannio. In 2001, she joined Roma Tre University as a full professor. From 2013 to 2018, she was the head of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at Roma Tre.

Awards and Recognition

Lucia Caporaso has received important awards for her work in mathematics. In 1998, she won the Bartolozzi Prize. This prize is given to young Italian mathematicians.

She was also invited to speak at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians. This is a very important meeting where mathematicians from all over the world share their new discoveries. She spoke in a special section about algebraic and complex geometry.
