Lucía Baquedano Azcona (born December 18, 1938, in Pamplona, Navarre) is a Spanish writer. She is well-known for her books for children and young adults. Her stories have won many important awards.

About Lucía Baquedano
Lucía Baquedano Azcona was born in Pamplona, Spain, on December 18, 1938. After getting married, she returned to her hometown and became a mother of four children. Today, she is also a proud grandmother.
How She Started Writing
Lucía Baquedano began her writing journey in 1979. She entered a writing contest with her novel Cinco panes de cebada (Five Barley Loaves). Even though she didn't win first place, her book was a finalist for the Gran Angular prize. This encouraged her to keep writing. In 1981, her first novel was published. It tells the story of a young teacher starting work at a school in the Pyrenees mountains.
Winning Awards for Her Books
Lucía Baquedano has won several awards for her wonderful books.
El Barco de Vapor Awards
In 1980, she won the second El Barco de Vapor prize for children's literature with her book La muñeca que tenía 24 pecas (The Doll with 24 Freckles). She won this award again in 1986 for her book Fantasmas de día (Daytime Ghosts). This book was so good that it was added to the IBBY Honor List in 1988. It was also recommended by the Jugendbibliothek of Munich, a famous library in Germany.
Other Special Awards
Lucía Baquedano also received the Almeria Book Fair award for her book Me llamo Pipe (My Name is Pipe). In 1993, she won the Spanish Catholic Commission for Childhood Award for La casa de los diablos (The House of Devils). She won this award again in 2002 for El pueblo sombrío (The Shadowy Town). Overall, she has written 20 books!
Her Books on Stage
In 2009, students from a school in Pamplona performed a play based on her book Fantasmas de día. They put on the show at the Gayarre Theater, a famous theater in Pamplona.
Writing for Newspapers
Besides writing books, Lucía Baquedano also writes articles for newspapers. She has a regular column called "La ventana" (The Window) in the Diario de Navarra newspaper. In her column, she writes about current events, culture, and literature.
