Luis Adriano Piedrahíta Sandoval (born October 7, 1946 – died January 11, 2021) was an important leader in the Catholic Church in Colombia. He served as a bishop, which is a high-ranking position in the church. He dedicated his life to serving his community through his religious work.

Life and Career

Becoming a Priest

Luis Adriano Piedrahíta Sandoval became a priest in 1972. This means he was trained and officially joined the Catholic Church as a spiritual leader. Priests help people with their faith, lead church services, and offer guidance.

Serving as a Bishop

Over the years, Luis Adriano Piedrahíta Sandoval took on more important roles. From 1999 to 2007, he was an auxiliary bishop in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cali. An auxiliary bishop helps the main bishop in a large area called an archdiocese. He was also given the special title of titular bishop of Centenarian.

Later, he became the main bishop for different areas in Colombia:

  • From 2007 to 2014, he was the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Apartadó.
  • From 2014 until his death in 2021, he was the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Marta.

Later Years and Passing

Luis Adriano Piedrahíta Sandoval passed away on January 11, 2021, when he was 74 years old. He died from COVID-19, a sickness that spread around the world. He had been diagnosed with the infection a few weeks before his death, on December 20, 2020.
