  • Finally, on April 14, 1537, Pope Paul III made him the Bishop of Palencia.

Helping Other Bishops

As a bishop, Luis Cabeza de Vaca also played a role in appointing other religious leaders. He was the main person who helped make Jerónimo de Loaysa the Bishop of Cartagena in 1538. He also helped make Jorge de Austria the Bishop of Brixen in 1539. This shows he was a respected and active figure in the church.
