Luis Martínez Noval (born 3 July 1948, died 30 March 2013) was an important Spanish politician. He was also an economist. He belonged to the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as Spain's Minister of Labor.

Early Life and Political Career

Luis Martínez Noval was born in Infiesto, a town in Piloña, Spain. He finished school at Colegio de la Inmaculada in Gijón in 1965. After that, he studied economics at the University of Oviedo. He earned a degree in Economic Sciences.

Later, he taught Economic Theory at the same university. But he soon decided to focus on being a full-time politician. He joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1978.

In 1981, he became the Deputy Secretary-General of the PSOE in Asturias. From 1988 to 2000, he was the general secretary of the party. He also joined the party's main leadership group.

From 1982 to 2001, Noval was a representative for Asturias in the Spanish parliament. On 2 May 1990, he was chosen to be the Minister of Labor and Social Security. This was a big job in the Spanish government. He served in this role until 1993.

After being a minister, he led the Committee on Social Policy and Employment. This committee was part of the Congress of Deputies. From 1996 to 1999, he was also a spokesman for his party. In 2001, he was appointed to the Court of Auditors. This group checks how the government spends money.

His Death

On 29 March 2013, Luis Martínez Noval had an accident in Oviedo. He fell and hurt his head badly. He was taken to the hospital. Sadly, after an operation, he passed away the next morning. He was 64 years old.
