Luis Orrego Luco (born May 18, 1866, in Santiago, Chile – died December 3, 1948) was an important Chilean figure. He was a politician, a lawyer, a novelist (someone who writes books), and a diplomat (someone who represents their country in other nations).
Luis Orrego Luco held several important jobs in the Chilean government. He was the Minister of Justice from 1918 to 1919. This role meant he was in charge of the country's legal system. He also served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile from 1918 to 1921. The Chamber of Deputies is like a parliament where elected officials make laws for the country. He was part of the Radical Party, a political group in Chile.
During the Chilean Civil War of 1891, Luis Orrego Luco was a regimental commander. This means he led a group of soldiers on the side that supported the Congress (the "Congressist side"). His older brother, Alberto, was a famous painter.
