Luis Rebolledo de Palafox y Melzi (born June 2, 1772 – died December 28, 1843) was a brave Spanish military leader. He played a big part in the Peninsular War. This was a major conflict against the French armies in the early 1800s.

He was also known as the 4th Marquis of Lazán and 9th Marquis of San Felices de Aragón. Along with his brothers, he became a national hero in Spain. This was because of his strong defense of the city of Zaragoza against the French.

Luis Rebolledo de Palafox was an important Spanish soldier. He was known for his bravery during the Peninsular War. This war was fought between Spain and France from 1808 to 1814.

Early Life and Education

Luis was born in Zaragoza, Spain. His parents were Juan Felipe Rebolledo de Palafox and Paula Melzi d'Eril. He went to school in Zaragoza at the St. Thomas Aquinas College.

A Brave Military Leader

In 1802, Luis was promoted to brigadier. This was an important military rank. Two other famous commanders from the Peninsular War, Joaquín Blake and the Count of Caldagues, also received this promotion.

Defending Saragossa

Luis and his two younger brothers, José de Palafox and Francisco Palafox, were heroes in Spain. They famously defended the city of Zaragoza from the French Imperial armies. This happened during two long sieges in 1808 and 1809. Their courage inspired many people.

Success in Catalonia

In 1809, Luis led an army in the region of Catalonia. He achieved a notable victory at the Battle of Castellón. This showed his skill as a commander.

Life After the War

After the Peninsular War ended, King Ferdinand VII returned to the Spanish throne in 1814. Luis Rebolledo de Palafox supported the king's rule. He believed in a strong monarchy, where the king had absolute power. He was against the more liberal ideas of the Spanish Constitution of 1812.

From 1815 to 1820, Luis served as the Captain General of Aragon. This was a very high position in the military and government of the region.
