Early Life and Community Involvement
Luisa Pastor loved the Moors and Christians festivals in San Vicente del Raspeig. These are big, colorful parades that celebrate history. She was part of a group called "Moros Viejos."
In 1985, she was a standard-bearer for her group. Her husband, José Ramón García Antón, was the captain. Their children, Carolina and José Ramón, also took part.
From 1987 to 1988, Luisa Pastor worked as a local editor. She wrote for the Información newspaper in San Vicente del Raspeig.
Starting a Political Career
Luisa Pastor began her journey in politics in 1999. She led the list for the People's Party in the local elections for San Vicente del Raspeig. She did not win the mayor's job that time.
However, things changed on 10 October 2001. Through a special vote, Luisa Pastor became the first woman mayor of San Vicente del Raspeig. This was a big step for the city.
Mayor of San Vicente del Raspeig
Luisa Pastor was very successful as mayor. In the 2003 local elections, her party won a clear majority. This meant they had more than half of the votes. She won with strong majorities again in 2007 and 2011.
During her time as mayor, San Vicente del Raspeig grew a lot. The city changed from being mostly industrial to more residential. This meant more homes and less focus on factories. Her husband, José Ramón García Antón, also helped bring many improvements to the city.
Sadly, her husband passed away suddenly in August 2009.
Leading Alicante Province
On 13 July 2011, Luisa Pastor took on another big role. She was chosen as the president of the Provincial Council of Alicante. She was the first woman to ever lead this important provincial group.
As president, she worked to improve the province's finances. She made sure to pay off the province's debts. She also continued her work in social services. She managed this area in the provincial government from 1999 to 2015.
End of Her Political Journey
In the 2015 local elections, Luisa Pastor ran for mayor for the fifth time. Her party lost some seats, and she was not re-elected as mayor. A new mayor, Jesus Villar, took over. In the provincial government, César Sánchez replaced her.
On 22 October 2015, Luisa Pastor decided to step down from her role as a councilor. She had served for 16 years in the San Vicente del Raspeig City Council. This included 13 years as mayor.
Luisa Pastor passed away on 18 April 2018, at the age of 69.
