Luise Koch was an important German educator, politician, and women's rights activist. She was born in Bremen, Germany, on October 11, 1860. She passed away in the same city on March 14, 1934. Luise worked hard to help women gain equal rights, especially the right to vote.

Early Life and Fight for Women's Rights

Luise Koch grew up in Bremen. Her father, Carl August Koch, was a businessman. Her mother, Lina Koch, was a piano teacher. Luise went to a private school for girls.

In 1904, Luise started a local group in Bremen. This group was part of the German Association for Women's Suffrage. The word "suffrage" means the right to vote. This group worked to get women the right to vote. Luise was the leader of this Bremen group from 1904 to 1919.

In 1916, she was also chosen to be on the board of the main German association for women's suffrage. This showed how important she was in the movement.

When World War I began, Luise asked the 600 members of her association to focus on helping their families and country. She encouraged them to support the war effort.

In 1917, Luise spoke out against a new voting rule in Bremen. She protested because the rule only gave voting rights to men. She believed women should also have the right to vote.

In 1918, she joined a new group called "Women in Bremen." She represented this group in both women's suffrage associations. She also worked with the Social Democrats, which was another political group.

Becoming a Politician

In 1919, Luise Koch became a member of the German Democratic Party (DDP). This was a political party in Germany. She represented her party in the Bremer National Constituent Assembly. This assembly was a special meeting in 1919 and 1920. It helped create new laws for Bremen. However, she did not run for a seat in the regular Bremen Parliament.
