Luizinho's Football Journey
Luizinho's football career lasted from 1975 to 1996. He started playing for a team called Villa Nova in his hometown of Nova Lima.
Playing for Atlético Mineiro
In 1978, Luizinho moved to Belo Horizonte. There, he joined Atlético Mineiro, one of Brazil's biggest clubs. He played for them for 11 years, until 1989. During this time, he helped Atlético Mineiro win the Campeonato Mineiro (the state championship of Minas Gerais) eight times! This was a huge achievement.
Time in Portugal and Return to Brazil
After his successful time in Brazil, Luizinho moved to Portugal. He played for Sporting CP in Lisbon from 1989 to 1992. After three years, he returned to Brazil. He joined another big Brazilian club, Cruzeiro. With Cruzeiro, he won the Brazilian Cup in 1993. In 1994, he won the Campeonato Mineiro again, this time with Cruzeiro. He finished his career back at Villa Nova in 1996.
Playing for Brazil
Luizinho also played for the Brazil national football team. He represented his country in 32 international matches between August 1980 and June 1983. He scored two goals for Brazil.
The 1982 World Cup
One of the biggest moments in Luizinho's career was playing in the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. He played in all five of Brazil's matches in that tournament. Brazil had a very strong team that year. Even though Brazil did not win the World Cup, Luizinho played so well that he was chosen for the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team. This means he was considered one of the best players in his position at the entire tournament!
