Luiz Henrique Vieira (born February 4, 1972), known as Luizinho Vieira, is a Brazilian football coach and a former player. He played as an attacking midfielder, a position where players help both defend and attack, often scoring goals or setting them up. Today, he is the head coach of the Caxias football team.

Luizinho Vieira's Playing Days

Luizinho Vieira was born in Criciúma, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He started his football journey as a young player at his hometown club, Criciúma EC. He made his first team debut in 1992.

After playing a few years there, he moved to Brasil de Pelotas in 1995. This is where he really started to shine, scoring goals regularly.

Playing for Big Clubs

In 1997, Luizinho joined Atlético Paranaense. The next year, he was loaned to a Chinese club called Shandong Luneng. A loan means he played for them for a short time before returning to his main team.

In the summer of 1999, he moved to Japan to play for Gamba Osaka in the J1 League. He played 15 matches as a midfielder and scored 6 goals.

Returning to Brazil

After leaving Gamba Osaka at the end of 1999, Luizinho returned to Atlético Paranaense. He then went back to Brasil de Pelotas in 2000.

In May 2001, after a short time at Inter de Limeira, he joined Santa Cruz. He was their top scorer in the 2001 Série A season, scoring 12 goals.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2002, Luizinho Vieira played for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. He then returned to Brazil to play for Marília, helping them get promoted from the Série C league by scoring six goals.

He also played for Ponte Preta and Atlético Sorocaba. In 2005, he was part of the 15 de Novembro team that finished second in the 2005 Campeonato Gaúcho championship.

Luizinho played for a few more clubs like ABC, Joinville, Ceilândia, Próspera, and Oeste. He retired from playing football with Oeste in 2008, when he was 36 years old.

Luizinho Vieira's Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Luizinho Vieira became a football coach.

Early Coaching Roles

In 2010, he started as an assistant coach at Novo Hamburgo. In March 2011, he became the head coach of Farroupilha.

Later that year, he moved to Botafogo-SP, first coaching the under-20 team. He then became the main team's coach in September, but only for one match. He accepted an offer from his former club, Brasil de Pelotas.

He was with Brasil de Pelotas until April 2012. After that, he returned to Farroupilha in 2013.

Coaching at Criciúma

In September 2013, Luizinho took over the under-20 team at Criciúma, his first club. In February 2014, he became the interim head coach for the main team. An interim coach is someone who takes charge temporarily.

He went back to his role with the under-20 team after a new coach was hired. However, he was again named interim coach in November 2014. Even though the team was relegated from the top league, he was made the permanent head coach for the 2015 season.

In April 2015, he became an assistant coach at Criciúma. He was an interim coach again in October. He left the club at the end of 2016 to become the head coach of Itumbiara.

Recent Coaching Positions

Luizinho Vieira left Itumbiara in February 2018 and took over Luverdense in April. He was let go in July as the team was struggling.

In October 2018, he became the head coach of Sergipe, but he only coached four matches before leaving in January 2019. He then joined Volta Redonda in October 2019, but he resigned about a year later.

In 2021, Luizinho coached Manaus and Retrô. He also coached Passo Fundo before moving to Ypiranga-RS in November 2021.

After leaving Ypiranga-RS in July 2023, he coached Confiança and then Amazonas in the same year. He led Amazonas to win the 2023 Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, which meant they were promoted to the second division for the first time ever!

He was let go by Amazonas in April 2024. In May, he became the head coach of Brusque, but he was also dismissed in September.

On September 24, 2024, Luizinho Vieira agreed to become the head coach of Caxias for the 2025 season.
