History of Oeste Futebol Clube
The club was founded in 1921 by two brothers from Rio de Janeiro. One brother liked the team Flamengo. The other brother supported Fluminense. They decided to play a training match against a local amateur team. The winner of this match would decide the new club's name. If they won, the club would be called Flamengo. If they lost, it would be Fluminense.
Oeste won the match 3–0. But instead of naming the club Flamengo, they chose Oeste Futebol Clube. "Oeste" means "West" in Portuguese. This name came from the Center-West region of São Paulo state. Even though they didn't use the name Flamengo, they did choose Flamengo's colors: red and black.
Early Achievements and Promotions
Oeste first played in the top state league, the Campeonato Paulista, in 2004. They earned this spot by winning the Série A2 (the second division) the year before. The club returned to the top league in 2009. This happened after they were runners-up in the Série A2 final in 2008.
In 2012, Oeste won the Série C. This is a national third division league in Brazil. They beat Icasa in the final match.
Partnerships and Relocation
In 2016, Oeste teamed up with Grêmio Osasco Audax. Audax was a strong team that year. This partnership was for the 2016 Serie B season. They combined players from both teams into one squad. Oeste also played its home games at Audax's stadium in Osasco.
In 2017, Oeste officially moved to the city of Barueri. Their old stadium in Itápolis, the Estádio Municipal dos Amaros, was too small. It was not allowed to host matches for the Série B. The city of Itápolis, which owned the stadium, could not agree with the club. So, Oeste found a new home in Barueri.
Club Symbols
The club's mascot is a jaguar. This animal is named after the Da Onça River (Onça River). "Onça" is the Portuguese word for jaguar.
Stadiums Where Oeste Plays
For most of its history, Oeste played its home games at the Estádio Municipal dos Amaros. This stadium is in Itápolis and can hold up to 6,000 people. In 2016, they played their home matches at Prefeito José Liberatti in Osasco. Since 2017, Oeste has played at the Arena Barueri in Barueri.
