Osasco is a city in São Paulo State, Brazil. It is part of the larger Greater São Paulo area. Osasco is one of the biggest cities in São Paulo by population.
The city is known for its strong economy. It ranks high in Brazil for its total economic output. Osasco is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. This means many people live close together. The city's motto is "Urbs labor," which is a Latin phrase meaning "City work." Osasco used to be a part of São Paulo City. It became its own city on February 19, 1962.

History of Osasco
Early Times
Long ago, the area where Osasco is now was home to the native Tupi-Guaraní people.
Colonial Period
During Brazil's colonial times, explorers called "Bandeirantes" lived here. This area was then known as "Vila de Quitaúna." A famous Bandeirante named António Raposo Tavares lived in this region.
City's Founding
Osasco was founded in the 1800s by an Italian immigrant. His name was Antônio Giuseppe Agù. He came from a town also called Osasco in Italy. One of the main streets in Osasco today is named after him.
Many immigrants came to Osasco in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They came from countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Armenia, Lebanon, Israel, and Japan. Their families make up most of Osasco's population today.
Becoming Independent
Osasco became a separate city from São Paulo on February 19, 1962. This was an important step for the city.
Osasco's Economy
Osasco was once a city focused on factories. But now, it is changing. The city is becoming more about shops and services. Osasco is home to the main office of Bradesco. This is one of the largest banks in Brazil.
