Playing Style
Rodrygo is seen as a very talented young player. His playing style is often compared to his Brazilian and Real Madrid teammate, Vinícius Júnior. This is because they both have great speed, technical skills, and a direct way of attacking.
Even though he is not very big or strong, Rodrygo's low center of gravity helps him. Combined with his dribbling skills and quickness, he can change direction fast with the ball. This allows him to get past opponents in one-on-one situations.
He is also known for making good decisions, finding good positions to attack, and scoring goals. He can also hold up the ball and create chances for his teammates. Pundits have also praised his hard work and willingness to pressure opponents.
Rodrygo usually plays as a right-winger, but he is very versatile. He can play in several other positions, including on the left side. During the 2023–24 season, his manager Carlo Ancelotti also used him as a right-sided forward or striker. In this role, he could move into central areas or switch positions with Vinícius on the other side of the field.
Rodrygo’s ability to play in different roles has been very helpful for Real Madrid. He has played as a winger, a second striker, and even in central attacking roles. In a 2024 interview, Rodrygo said about his adaptability: "Often, I’m just filling blank spaces... but I’m a team player."
Personal Life
Rodrygo is a Christian. He and Brazilian beautician Pamella Cristina Costa had twin sons in February 2022.
His father, Eric, was also a professional footballer. He played as a right-back in Brazil. Rodrygo’s father had predicted he would be a footballer even before he was born. Rodrygo has one younger sister, Ana Julya, who was born in 2018.
In February 2024, Rodrygo worked with the Juegaterapia Foundation and artist Titocustoms. They started a fundraising campaign to fight childhood cancer. This project involved auctioning personalized items like Nike sneakers, a jacket, a ball, and a painting. The money raised helps children affected by cancer. Rodrygo said about his involvement: "Football is a tool that allows us not only to amplify the values of sport, but also to offer an opportunity to those people who need support."
