Early Life
Lupillo Rivera was born in Long Beach, California. His parents are Rosa Saavedra and Pedro Rivera. Before Lupillo was born, his older brothers, Pedro Jr. and Gustavo, along with his parents, moved to Long Beach. Lupillo finished high school at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1990.
Music Career
Lupillo Rivera's music journey started because of his father's record company, Cintas Acuario. At first, he wanted to open a restaurant. But he soon became interested in the music business. He worked at his father's studio. There, he helped find and sign new local singers. This gave him great experience in the music world. Over time, Lupillo grew to love music deeply.
When he first started performing, he used the name "El Torito." As he became more popular, he changed his stage name to "El Toro del Corrido." This was a tribute to his uncle, a famous boxer named El Toro Rivera. By 1999, he decided to use "Lupillo Rivera" as his main stage name.
His career really took off when he signed with Sony Discos. In 2001, his album Despreciado won him a Premio lo Nuestro award. It also reached the top of the Billboard Latin Albums chart. The next year, the album won him two Billboard Latin Music Awards. He also appeared on the TV show Amorcito Corazón.
In 2004, Lupillo released Con Mis Propias Manos. This album also became a big hit, reaching the top of the music charts. However, his 2009 album Tu Esclavo y Amo was his biggest success. It won a Grammy Award for Best Banda Album in 2010. Before this, his albums Entre Copas y Botellas (2008) and El Tiro de Gracia (2009) were also nominated for awards.
Since his album 24 Horas came out in 2010, Lupillo has not released any new studio albums.
