Early Life and Education
Luther Martin Strong was born near Tiffin, Ohio. As a young person, he went to local schools. He also attended an academy in Republic, Ohio, to continue his studies. After finishing school, he became a teacher.
Military Service
In 1861, Luther Strong joined the army. He became a soldier in the Forty-ninth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He served in the military until March 13, 1865. This was during the time of the American Civil War.
Law and Public Service
After his time in the army, Luther Strong decided to study law. He worked hard and was allowed to become a lawyer on January 30, 1867. This permission came from the highest court in Ohio, the Supreme Court of Ohio.
He then moved to Kenton, Ohio, where he started his law practice. He also helped his community by serving on the local board of education.
