Archibald Lybrand (born May 23, 1840 – died February 7, 1910) was an important person from Ohio. He was a lawyer, a soldier, a businessman, and served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He helped make laws for the country.

Who Was Archibald Lybrand?
Archibald Lybrand was born in Tarlton, Ohio. When he was about 17 years old, in 1857, he moved to Delaware, Ohio. He went to local schools and later studied at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware.
Lybrand's Time as a Soldier
When the Civil War started, Archibald Lybrand joined the Union Army. This was on April 26, 1861. He was part of the Fourth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
Later, he moved to a different group, the Seventy-third Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to a higher rank, becoming a first lieutenant. Then, he became a captain of his company. He served in the army for three years during the war.
Lybrand's Career After the War
After leaving the army, Lybrand went back to Delaware, Ohio. In 1869, he became the mayor of the city. A mayor is the leader of a city or town.
He also studied law and became a lawyer in 1871. Besides law, he owned land and worked in farming and business. From 1881 to 1885, he was the postmaster of Delaware. A postmaster is in charge of the local post office.
Serving in Congress
Archibald Lybrand was a member of the Republican Party. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He served two terms, from March 4, 1897, to March 3, 1901.
He tried to be elected again in 1900 but was not successful. After his time in Congress, he went back to his business activities in Delaware, Ohio.
Later Life and Death
Archibald Lybrand passed away on February 7, 1910. He died in Daytona, Florida. He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio.
