William Robert Warnock (born August 29, 1838 – died July 30, 1918) was an American lawyer and politician. He was also a veteran of the American Civil War. Warnock served two terms as a U.S. Representative for Ohio from 1901 to 1905.

Life Story of William R. Warnock
William Robert Warnock was born in Urbana, Ohio. He went to public schools there. From 1856 to 1868, he worked as a school teacher in Urbana. During this time, he also studied at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He graduated from the university in 1861. After graduating, he began to study law.
Serving in the Civil War
Warnock joined the Union Army on July 21, 1862. He started as a Captain of Company G in the 95th Ohio Infantry. He was promoted to major on July 28, 1863. Later, on March 15, 1865, he became a lieutenant colonel. From April to August 1865, Warnock was a chief of staff. He worked for the Eastern District of Mississippi. He left the army on August 14, 1865.
His Career Path
After the war, Warnock continued his law studies. He became a lawyer in 1866 and started his own law practice in Urbana. He worked as a prosecuting attorney from 1868 to 1872. This means he was the lawyer who brought legal cases against people accused of crimes.
Warnock also helped with education. He was a member of the board of school examiners for Champaign County from 1870 to 1876. He also served as a trustee for Ohio Wesleyan University for 25 years. In 1876 and 1877, Warnock was a member of the Ohio Senate. From 1879 to 1889, he was a judge for the court of common pleas in Ohio. He also served as the president of the National Bank of Urbana.
Serving in Congress
Warnock was elected to the U.S. Congress as a Republican. He served two terms, from March 4, 1901, to March 3, 1905. During his second term, he led the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of War. This committee looked at how money was spent in the War Department. He did not run for re-election after his second term.
After Congress, Warnock worked as a United States pension agent in Columbus, Ohio. He held this job from 1906 to 1910. Later, in 1913 and 1914, he became the Commander of the Ohio department. This was for the Grand Army of the Republic, a group for Civil War veterans.
Later Life and Passing
William Robert Warnock passed away in Urbana, Ohio, on July 30, 1918. He was buried in Oakdale Cemetery.

Warnock married Catherine Murray on August 20, 1868. She was from Clark County, Ohio. They had three children together.
Warnock was a Methodist, which is a type of Christian faith. He was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and a Freemason.
