Luton Football Club was a football team from the 1800s. It was based in Plantation, Glasgow, which is a city in Scotland. The club played association football, which is what we call soccer today.
The Story of Luton FC
Luton Football Club started in the 1879–80 football season. At first, it was a "junior club." This means it was for younger players or teams that were just starting out.
In 1880, Luton FC became one of the first teams to join the Scottish Junior Football Association. This was a new group for junior football clubs in Scotland.
The club played in the very first Scottish Junior Cup in 1880–81. This cup was a special competition that only happened once at that time. It didn't happen again for five more years!
Becoming a Senior Club
In 1881, Luton FC became a "senior club." This meant they were now playing against more experienced and professional teams.
They entered the main Scottish Cup three times. They played in two of those matches. In the 1881–82 Scottish Cup, they lost 9–1 to a team called Northern. The next year, in the 1882–83 Scottish Cup, they lost 4–0 to Clyde.
The End of the Club
Luton FC was one of the founding members of the Glasgow Football Association in April 1883. This was a group for football clubs in Glasgow.
However, the club didn't last much longer. Before the next season even began, another club called Possilpark took over Luton FC. This meant Luton FC stopped existing as its own team.
Luton FC had already signed up for the 1883–84 Scottish Cup. But because the club ended, they had to pull out of their match against Whitefield.
Team Colours
When Luton FC first started, their team uniform had black and white hoops. They wore white "knickerbockers," which were like shorts.
For their very last season, they changed their knickerbockers to a navy blue colour.
Home Ground
Luton Football Club usually played their home games at a place called Nelson Park.
However, one of their Scottish Cup matches against Northern was played at Lorne Park. This was the home ground of another team called Mavisbank.
