This community is also part of a larger area called the South Bend–Mishawaka Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the bigger cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, which are nearby in Indiana and Michigan.

History of Lydick
Lydick has had a few different names over the years! Before it was called Lydick, it was known as Warren Center, Sweet Home, and Lindley.
Old Bridge and Railroads
There's a remaining part of an old bridge in Lydick. This bridge was built in 1911 for the St. Joseph, South Bend & Southern railway. It was taken down in the early to mid-1950s after the Michigan Central railway stopped using its line there.
Recycling in Lydick
Today, you can find the Michiana Pallet Recycle Company in Lydick. This is a business that helps recycle wooden pallets. It's located on Quince Road, right between the tracks of two active railways: the Norfolk Southern and the South Shore Line.
Post Office Changes
Lydick also had a post office that changed names several times:
- It first opened in 1839 as Warren Centre.
- In 1885, its name changed to Sweet Home.
- Then, in 1902, it became Lindley.
- Finally, in 1909, it was renamed Lydick.
- The post office closed down in 1913.
Transportation in Lydick
Lydick was once an important stop for several train lines, helping people and goods move around.
Train Depots and Stops
- The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway used to have a train station, called a depot, in Lydick. We don't know exactly when or how it was removed.
- The Northern Indiana Railroad also had a stop here. This line stopped operating in 1936, but the old depot building is still standing today.
- The South Shore Line opened a stop in Lydick in 1908. However, not many people were using it, so it closed in 1955. You can still see the foundation of this old stop.
- The South Shore Line also had another stop nearby called "Chain Lakes." Sadly, this stop was destroyed by a fire in 1936.
