The Story of Lynn Grove's Name
The community of Lynn Grove has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name! It all started with a post office, which is a place where you can send and receive mail.
First Post Office: Linn Grove
In 1873, a man named Lilburn Linn set up the very first post office here. He called it "Linn Grove, Kentucky." However, this first post office didn't stay open for long. It closed just one year later, in 1874.
A New Name: Leonville
Years later, in 1886, another post office was opened in the area. This time, Leon Blythe was in charge. He named the community "Leonville, Kentucky," after himself.
Becoming Lynn Grove
The name changed again on April 6, 1892. The community officially became known as "Lynn Grove." It's believed that a small mistake by a clerk at the U.S. Post Office caused the spelling to be different from the original "Linn Grove."
