The Lynn River is an important part of Norfolk County. It is known for its cool, clear water. This river is one of the few cold water rivers that flows into the eastern part of Lake Erie.
Exploring the Lynn River
You can explore parts of the Lynn River! The Lynn Valley Trail follows the river. This trail runs between Port Dover and the town of Simcoe. It is also possible to kayak down the Lynn River. You can paddle all the way to the edge of Port Dover.
A small waterfall can be found near Port Dover on the Lynn River. This waterfall is on private land. So, the only safe way to see it is from the roadside. Many beautiful homes are built along the Lynn River.
Water and Nature
The Lynn River's water quality is quite good. It is a bit cleaner than the average for rivers in Ontario. However, the forests around the river are not as healthy. They are in worse condition compared to other forests in Ontario.
The Lynn River is a main water source for many communities. These include Bloomsburg, Lynnville, Nixon, Colborne, Renton, Simcoe, Hillcrest, Bill's Corners, Shand's Corners, and Port Dover.
Black Creek joins the Lynn River in Port Dover. After this, both flow into Lake Erie. The area that drains into the Lynn River is about 285 square kilometers (110 square miles). This whole area is called its watershed.
