Lyric Atchison is a talented athlete from North Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a proud member of the Squamish Nation. Lyric has always loved playing many different sports. She played soccer and wrestled, and then started playing rugby in 2012 when she was 13 years old.

Rugby Star

Lyric Atchison is a First Nation rugby player who has achieved a lot! When she was at Carson Graham high school, she was the team captain. She led her team to win two championships in 2016 and 2017.

After high school, Lyric went to the University of British Columbia (UBC). There, she studied Kinesiology, which is the study of how the human body moves. At UBC, she joined the rugby team, known as the Thunderbirds. As a university athlete, she could play for up to five years. Lyric plays in a position called "Back Row" in rugby. Lyric is not only a great rugby player but also a national-level youth wrestler. When she was in grade 12 at Carson Graham, she won the Premier's Award for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport for her region. This award recognized her amazing achievements in sports.

In 2018 and 2019, Lyric was chosen to be part of Canada's Women's Under-20 (U20) rugby team. She traveled to England with the team to compete in the Tri-Nations Cup.

Tom Longboat Award Winner

The Tom Longboat Award is a very special award that started in 1951. It is given to Indigenous athletes in Canada who have shown outstanding skill and made great contributions to sports.

In 2019, Lyric Atchison was honored to win the Tom Longboat Award. She was recognized as the top female Indigenous athlete of the entire year! The Aboriginal Sport Circle chooses the winners of this important award.

Lyric has made a big impact in the rugby world from a young age. She played for the Carson Graham Eagles in high school and then joined the UBC Thunderbirds. She also played for British Columbia's provincial teams for different age groups. In 2017, she was part of the BC Under-18 (U18) team that went on an undefeated tour in Ireland.
