Mégiscane Lake is a beautiful lake located in Quebec, Canada. You can find it in the Senneterre (parish) area, which is part of the La Vallée-de-l'Or Regional County Municipality. This region is known as Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Where is Mégiscane Lake?
Mégiscane Lake is found deep in the forests of Abitibi. It sits between two other important places: Lebel-sur-Quévillon and the Gouin Reservoir.

The Shape of the Lake
Mégiscane Lake has a very interesting and complex shape. It stretches out long from the southwest to the northeast. The lake has three main wider sections.
Southern Part
The southern part of the lake is about 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) long. This includes a narrow passage that connects it to the middle section. At its widest, this part is about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) across. On its western side, you'll find a spot called the Bay of Wolves.
Central Part
The middle section of the lake is about 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) long and 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) wide. It has a large island in its center. This island is about 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi) long and 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) wide.
Northern Part
The northern part of Mégiscane Lake is about 9.0 kilometres (5.6 mi) long. It can be up to 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) wide. Lake Arlette flows into this northern section.
Lake's Flow
The water from Mégiscane Lake flows out from the northern part of its central section. It then goes into the Mégiscane River, which shares the same name as the lake.
What Does "Mégiscane" Mean?
The name "Mégiscane" comes from the Algonquin people. This word refers to a fish hook or bait. Long ago, the Algonquins were known for fishing a lot in the Mégiscane River using lines.
Name History
Over time, explorers wrote the name "Mégiscane" in different ways. You might see it spelled as Megiskan, Métiskan, or Métiscan in old reports. The official name "Lac Mégiscane" was recorded on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is a group that names places in Quebec.
