M. Christopher Brown II is an American leader in education. He has served as a president at several universities. He was the president of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky.

A Career in Education Leadership

Brown has held many important roles in universities. He was the president of Alcorn State University. This was the first historically Black land-grant university in the United States. He also served as a top leader at the Southern University System and Southern University.

Early Leadership Roles

Before becoming a university president, Brown was a leader at Fisk University. There, he was an Executive Vice President and Provost. He also taught as a professor.

He was the dean of the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He worked for several important education groups. These included the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. He also worked for the American Educational Research Association. Brown was also a leader at the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute. This institute is part of the United Negro College Fund.

Brown has also taught at other universities. These include Pennsylvania State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Leading Alcorn State University

Brown became the president of Alcorn State University in 2010. During his time there, he helped the university grow. For the first time ever, more than 4,000 students attended the school in 2011.

In 2012, Alcorn State was named 'HBCU of the Year'. This award came from the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy. Soon after, Brown received a four-year extension on his contract. This showed how much the university trusted his leadership.

Sports and History at Alcorn State

In 2012, Brown hired Jay Hopson as the head football coach. This was a big moment for the school. In 2014, the football team, called the Braves, won a major championship. It was their first conference title in 20 years.

In 2013, Brown helped unveil a large statue. It honored Medgar Evers, a civil rights activist. Evers was also a graduate of Alcorn State University. That same year, Brown was named HBCU Male President of the Year. This award was from the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy.

Brown later left Alcorn State University in 2013.
