Early Life and Education
Myron Thomas Liggett was born on December 28, 1930. He grew up on a family farm in Mullinville, Kansas. After finishing Mullinville High School, he continued his education. He attended Dodge City Community College. Later, he studied political science at the University of Texas at Austin. He also earned a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University. He even went to law school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Military Service
Before becoming a full-time artist, Liggett served his country. He joined the United States Navy in 1948. Later, in 1957, he became a part of the United States Air Force. His time in the military was an important part of his life.
His Unique Art
In 1987, Liggett returned to his hometown of Mullinville, Kansas. This is where he started creating his famous art. He used old farm tools, welded metal, and even old plow discs. His sculptures were special because they moved with the wind. This made them kinetic sculptures.
Art and Politics
Liggett's artwork often showed his political ideas. He had very strong views, which were generally conservative. His art was a way for him to share these thoughts with everyone. People driving by could see his messages.
Where to See His Work
Liggett's main art gallery was right along his front fence. This was on the north side of U.S. Route 400 in Mullinville. Many people would stop to see his outdoor display. He was also a featured artist at the Folk Art Museum in Lucas, Kansas.

M. T. Liggett and some of his sculptures appeared in a movie. It was a 2009 documentary called What's the Matter with Kansas?. This film helped more people learn about his unique art.
Later Life and Passing
M. T. Liggett passed away on August 17, 2017. He was 86 years old. He died at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. His art continues to be remembered as an important part of American folk art.
