Małgorzata Bocheńska (born Małgorzata Gąsiorowska; 10 September 1949 – 2 January 2018) was a Polish journalist, a person who helped share culture, and a writer. She was known for her work in television and for supporting human rights in Poland.

Małgorzata Bocheńska was born in Warsaw, Poland. She studied Polish at the University of Warsaw and finished her studies in 1976.

Early Work in Television

From 1974 to 1981, she worked as an editor for the Polish National TV Theater. This theater created plays specifically for television.

Supporting Freedom in Poland

Between 1984 and 1989, Małgorzata Bocheńska joined groups that wanted Poland to be more democratic and free. She worked with the Helsinki Committee, which helps protect human rights around the world.

In 1984, she created a special meeting place called "Salon 101." This was a secret spot where important people from politics, science, and art could meet. They all shared the goal of helping Poland become independent.

Making Documentary Films

In 1986, she started an independent film group called "Index." This group made documentary films in Europe and South America. These films were often for Polish people living abroad and for the "Freedom House" Foundation, which supports democracy.

As a film reporter, she recorded many important political and social events. These included the activities of the "Solidarity" movement, a big trade union that fought for workers' rights and freedom. She also filmed Lech Wałęsa, who was a leader of Solidarity, and the "Citizen's Committees" that helped bring about change.

Return to National Television

From 1990 to 1992, Małgorzata Bocheńska became the editor-in-chief of the national TV's social and political department. She created several TV programs, such as "The Record" and "Journalist Disclose."

Between 1993 and 1995, she hosted her own program called "Studio Kontakt" for TVP Polonia. This show helped promote Polish culture to people around the world. After 1995, she became a program advisor for Polsat TV. On 8 September 2001, she started a special event called "The Day of Good News."

Memberships and Legacy

Małgorzata Bocheńska was a member of several important groups. These included the "Polish Union of Journalists," the "Cultural Association Beit Warsaw," and the "Free Word Association." She passed away in Warsaw on 2 January 2018, and she is remembered by her four children.
