Maaninka was a small area in the Northern Savonia region of Finland. It was once its own local government area, called a municipality. But on January 1, 2015, Maaninka joined with the larger city of Kuopio. Now, it is part of Kuopio.
In November 2014, about 3,747 people lived in Maaninka. The total area was about 575 square kilometers. A big part of this area, about 108 square kilometers, was water. This means Maaninka had many lakes or rivers. Most people in Maaninka spoke only Finnish.

Maaninka is known for its beautiful nature. Most of the land is covered by rugged forests. It is a great place for outdoor adventures.
Finland's Tallest Waterfall
Maaninka is home to the tallest waterfall in Finland. This amazing waterfall is called Korkeakoski. It drops from a height of 36 meters (about 118 feet)! People have been visiting Korkeakoski as a tourist spot since the 1800s. It is a popular place to see nature's power.
