Mabbettsville is a small community, also called a hamlet, in Dutchess County, New York. It is about 2 miles east of Millbrook. You can find it along U.S. Route 44. Mabbettsville is located about 85 miles north of New York City.
This community is one of the main living areas in the town of Washington. It is home to Town Park, which has a baseball field. This park is one of the few places for fun activities on the east side of Washington. Many businesses in Mabbettsville are related to hobbies and outdoor activities. These include places like dog kennels and antique shops. There are also businesses that help with homes and gardens.
History of Mabbettsville
Mabbettsville used to have a different name. It was called "Flikentown." This name came from one of the original landowners, part of the "Great Nine Partners Patent."
The community got its new name, Mabbettsville, from a man named James Mabbett. He was an auctioneer who moved to the area in the early 1800s. By 1937, Mabbettsville was a small place. It had a store, a garage, and just a few houses.
