MacBride Head facts for kids
MacBride Head is the most northeasterly tip of the Falkland Islands. You can find it on East Falkland, which is one of the two main islands. Just south of MacBride Head is a place called Mount MacBride. This area is special because it's home to a lively sea lion colony!
How MacBride Head Got Its Name
MacBride Head is named after a brave naval officer, Captain John MacBride. He was an important person in the history of the Falkland Islands. Captain MacBride is known for helping to settle Saunders Island.
He commanded two ships, HMS Jason and HMS Carcass. These ships were so famous that they even gave their names to other places in the Falklands! The Jason Islands and Carcass Island are both named after Captain MacBride's ships.
