Macdara Woods (1942 – 15 June 2018) was an Irish poet. He was known for his beautiful poems and his work in the arts.

Macdara Woods was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1942. He went to school at Gonzaga College and later studied at University College Dublin.

He married another poet named Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin. Together, they had a son named Niall, who grew up to be a musician. Macdara Woods lived in Dublin for much of his life, but he also spent time in Umbria, a region in Italy.

Macdara Woods helped start an important Irish literary magazine called Cyphers. He was one of its first editors. He passed away on June 15, 2018, at the age of 76.

Special Achievements

In 1986, Macdara Woods was chosen to be a member of Aosdána. This is a special group in Ireland. The Irish Government created Aosdána to celebrate artists who have made a great impact on the arts in Ireland. Being a member of Aosdána is a high honour for an artist.
