Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Macedonia was a small community or "ghost town" in northern Phelps County, Missouri. It's a place that no longer exists as a busy town.

Where Was Macedonia Located?

Macedonia was found in the central part of Missouri, a state in the United States. It was located just east of a main road called U.S. Route 63.

The community was about 4.5 miles north of a larger city named Rolla. A church and cemetery, also called Macedonia, are still located about one mile north of where the town once stood.

A Look Back: Macedonia's History

Macedonia had its own post office for many years. This post office opened in 1890. It helped people send and receive mail in the area.

However, the post office eventually closed down in 1917. The community itself was named after a local church. This church was known as the Macedonia Baptist Church.
