Macon, also known as Macon Quarters, is a small community in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is managed by the county.
History of Macon
Early Days and Naming
Macon had its own post office for a short time. It operated under the name Macon from 1891 until 1903. The community was named after the city of Macon, Georgia. This was a common practice when new places were settled.
Recent Events: The 2021 Tornado
On March 25, 2021, a very strong tornado hit Macon. This tornado was an EF3 tornado. An EF3 tornado is quite powerful and can cause a lot of damage. The tornado moved right through the community. It damaged or destroyed many homes, mobile homes, and trees in the area.
