Macuelizo (pronounced mak-weh-LEE-so) is a special area in Honduras. It is a type of local government area called a municipality. You can find Macuelizo in the Santa Bárbara region of Honduras.
This area is located just a few kilometers north of a major road. This road, called CA-4, connects the city of San Pedro Sula to the border of El Salvador. It passes through another town called Santa Rosa de Copán.
People of Macuelizo
In 2013, a count of the people in Honduras, called a census, took place. At that time, about 34,401 people lived in the Macuelizo municipality.
Most of the people living there, about 83%, are Mestizo. This means they have a mix of European and Indigenous backgrounds. About 12% of the people are identified as White.
A smaller group, about 2%, are Black or Afro-Honduran. About 1% are Indigenous, meaning they are descendants of the original inhabitants of the Americas. The remaining people belong to other groups.
