Madeleine Angela Polland (born May 31, 1918 – died 2005) was an Irish author. She wrote many exciting books, especially for children. She was well-known for her historical fiction stories. These stories were set in different times and places from the past.
About Her Life
Madeleine Angela Cahill was born in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. This was on May 31, 1918. While she was still in school, her family moved to England. She went to Hitchin Girls' Grammar School in Hertfordshire from 1929 to 1937.
After school, Madeleine worked as an assistant librarian. She worked in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, from 1939 to 1942. She returned to this job from 1945 to 1946. During the Second World War, she helped with the war effort. She worked for the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Her job was at a radar station from 1942 to 1945. Radar helped detect planes.
In 1946, she married Arthur Joseph Polland. They had two children together. Madeleine Polland also wrote books using another name. This name was Frances Adrian. In her later years, she lived in Málaga, Spain. Polland wrote historical fiction books set in many different countries. She often traveled to these places herself to do research for her stories.
