Madeline Swegle (formerly Madeline Manhertz) is a United States Naval Aviator. She made history as the U.S. Navy's first black female tactical jet pilot.
Meet Madeline Swegle
Madeline Swegle is a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. She grew up in Burke, Virginia.
Her Early Life and Education
Madeline graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2013. After high school, she attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 2017. During her time in both high school and college, she was very active in track and field sports.
After college, Madeline went to VT-21 in Kingsville, Texas. There, she trained to become a tactical jet pilot. This training teaches pilots how to fly fast, powerful jets used for combat.
On July 7, 2020, Madeline successfully finished her training. This amazing achievement made her the very first black woman to become a tactical jet pilot in the U.S. Navy.
