Madeline Swegle's Journey to the Skies
Madeline Swegle is a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. She grew up in Burke, Virginia. Her journey to becoming a pilot started early.
Education and Early Life
Madeline graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2013. After high school, she attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 2017. During her time in both high school and college, she was very active in track and field sports.
Becoming a Tactical Jet Pilot
After college, Madeline began her special pilot training. She went to VT-21 in Kingsville, Texas. There, she completed a tough training program called the Tactical Air Strike pilot training syllabus. This program teaches pilots how to fly advanced jet aircraft.
On July 7, 2020, Madeline successfully finished her training. This amazing achievement made her the very first black woman to become a tactical jet pilot in the U.S. Navy. Her success opened doors for many others who dream of flying.
