You can find over 222 shops and places to eat here. There's also a huge 15-screen Cinesa Movie Theater. The coolest part is probably Madrid SnowZone, which is an indoor ski slope. Who Owns Madrid Xanadú?
An American company called Mills Corporation built Madrid Xanadú in 2002. It opened with a lot of excitement the next year. This was the first mall Mills Corporation built outside the United States. They had plans to build even more malls in Europe.
Later, in 2006, a Canadian real estate company named Ivanhoé Cambridge bought Madrid Xanadú. This helped Mills Corporation with some money problems they were having. In 2017, another company, Intu Properties, showed interest in buying the mall.
American Dream: Xanadú's Sister Mall
In 2004, the same company that built Madrid Xanadú, The Mills, started building another huge mall. This one was in New Jersey, USA, and was first called Meadowlands Xanadu. Now, it's known as American Dream.
Building this mall took a very long time. There were many changes in ownership and lots of delays. The first parts of American Dream finally opened in October 2019. The rest of the project opened in December 2019 and October 2020.
