About Mads Eriksen
Mads Eriksen was born in Malvik, a place in Norway. He started his journey in the world of comics in the year 2000. This was when his first comic strip, Gnom, was chosen to be in a magazine called Smult. This magazine helped new Norwegian cartoonists share their work.
Early Career and Gnom
Gnom quickly became very popular. But then, the company that published Smult stopped printing the magazine. Because of this, Eriksen decided to stop drawing Gnom. He then began a new comic series called M.
The Rise of M
M first appeared as a special guest comic in the monthly magazine Pondus. The name M comes from Mads's own first initial. This comic strip is a bit like a diary, showing parts of his own life. It also has a dream-like, unusual style. The comic features Mads himself and his girlfriend, who he calls "Madammen" (The Madam).
In 2002, M started appearing every day in the newspaper Dagbladet. It was so popular that it became a regular part of the newspaper. It even took the place of another famous comic strip, Hägar the Horrible.
In 2005, a special book was released that had all the Gnom comics in it. Then, in December 2006, M got its very own magazine. A new issue of the M magazine came out every month. The M comic strips are printed six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. You can find them in the newspapers Dagbladet and Adresseavisen. They also appear online on the start.no website.
Taking a Break and Comeback
In the summer of 2008, Mads Eriksen stopped making comic strips for a while. He said that the pressure of meeting deadlines and feeling unwell were the reasons. He later shared in September 2009 that he had started drawing again.
Mads Eriksen lives in Trondheim today. He describes himself as a big "geek". This means he is a huge fan of popular things like Star Wars.
In November 2021, Mads Eriksen made a comeback. He started drawing cartoons again in Pondus magazine. This was after his break in the early 2010s.
