Magicland was a super cool TV show all about magic tricks! It was made for children and ran for a really long time. This amazing show aired for 23 years on the Memphis, Tennessee, TV station called WMC-TV. Magicland even holds a special Guinness World Record. It's known as the longest-running TV magic series in the entire world!

The Magician Behind the Magic

The person who created and hosted Magicland was a talented magician named Dick Williams. He was often called "Mr. Magic" on the show. Before Magicland, Dick Williams worked at WMC-TV in 1965. He was a staff announcer and even a weatherman!

Magic was his favorite hobby. He had already started a similar magic show called Magicland at his old TV station, KGNC, in Amarillo, Texas. The people in charge at WMC-TV heard about his show. They really liked the idea!

How Magicland Started

WMC-TV asked Dick Williams to create a similar magic show for their station. He agreed, but he thought the show would only last for about a year. He was very wrong! Magicland became a huge hit. It ended up running for 23 years. That's a really long time for a TV show!

Over those 23 years, there were almost 1,200 episodes of Magicland. Imagine all the magic tricks and fun in so many shows!

What Made Magicland Special?

Magicland was a weekly show. It lasted for half an hour. It aired every Sunday morning at 10 AM. The show was filmed in front of a live audience of children. This made it extra exciting!

Tricks and Fun

Dick "Mr. Magic" Williams performed all sorts of tricks. He did amazing illusions that made people wonder "How did he do that?!" He also juggled things like clubs and scarves. Many people remember him for his special magician's finger exercises. These were a signature part of his act.

A Helping Hand

Mr. Magic had a very important helper on the show. His wife, Virginia, assisted him on screen. But she did much more than that! Virginia also sewed costumes for the show. She organized all the props needed for the tricks. She even arranged the music and helped direct other assistants. She was a true behind-the-scenes hero!
