Magma was a small, unnamed place in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. It was not a city with its own government. This area was located about 1,519 feet (463 meters) above sea level.
It was better known as Magma Junction. This name came from its important role as a meeting point for two railway lines.
What Was Magma Junction?
Magma Junction was a key spot for trains. It was where the Magma Arizona Railroad connected with the main Southern Pacific railway line. This junction was about 30 miles east of Superior.
Why Was It Important?
The Magma Arizona Railroad was used to transport copper ore from mines. Connecting with the Southern Pacific mainline allowed the ore to be moved to other places. This made Magma Junction a vital link for the mining industry in Arizona.
