Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu (born August 9, 1975) is a famous Indian actor who mainly works in Telugu cinema. He is one of the highest-paid actors in India and has appeared in more than 25 movies. For his amazing work, he has won many awards, including nine Nandi Awards and five Filmfare Awards South.

Mahesh Babu is the younger son of the well-known actor Krishna. He started his acting career as a child. At just four years old, he appeared in the film Needa (1979). He acted in several other movies as a child before taking a break to finish his studies.

He returned to the big screen as a lead actor in the movie Rajakumarudu (1999). This film was a big hit and earned him an award for Best Male Debut. His career took off with successful films like the supernatural story Murari (2001) and the action-packed Okkadu (2003).

Early Life and Family

Mahesh Babu was born on August 9, 1975, in Madras (now Chennai), India. His father is the famous Telugu actor Krishna, and his mother is Indira. He is the fourth of five children. His family is from a village called Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh.

Mahesh grew up in Chennai, where his grandmother took care of him. He went to St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. After school, he earned a degree in Commerce from Loyola College in Chennai.

Acting Career

Starting as a Child Actor

Mahesh Babu's acting journey began when he was only four years old. His father's director, Dasari Narayana Rao, saw him on a film set and decided to include him in the movie Needa (1979). This was his first time on screen.

After that, he acted in several other films as a child, including Sankharavam (1987) and Gudachari 117 (1989). In Koduku Diddina Kapuram (1989), he even played a double role. After acting in a few more films, he took a break from movies to focus on his education.

Becoming a Star

In 1999, Mahesh Babu returned to acting as the main hero in Rajakumarudu. The movie was a success, and fans started calling him "Prince." He then starred in Murari (2001), a film he considers very important for his career.

His big breakthrough came in 2003 with the film Okkadu. In this movie, he played a young man who protects a girl from a dangerous villain. During the filming of Vamsi in 2000, Mahesh Babu met actress Namrata Shirodkar. They fell in love and got married on February 10, 2005. The couple has two children: a son named Gautam and a daughter named Sitara.

Gautam acted as a younger version of his father in the film 1: Nenokkadine (2014). Sitara lent her voice for the character of young Elsa in the Telugu version of the Disney movie Frozen 2 (2019).

Mahesh's family is deeply connected to the film industry. His elder brother, Ramesh Babu, was an actor and producer. His sister Manjula is also a producer and actress. His brother-in-law, Sudheer Babu, is a popular actor in Telugu cinema.
