Maison Radio-Canada (which means CBC House in English) is a very tall building called a skyscraper. It is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was built in 1973.

This building is the main place for all French-language radio and TV shows from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (also known as Société Radio-Canada or SRC). It has studios and a "master control" room. This room is like the brain of the broadcasting system. It controls what goes out on air.

Maison Radio-Canada also has the main studios for Montreal's English-language CBC services. These include TV channel CBMT-DT and radio stations CBME-FM and CBM-FM. It is also the home of Radio Canada International. This service broadcasts Canadian news and culture to people around the world.

Where is Maison Radio-Canada Located?

The address of Maison Radio-Canada is 1400 René Lévesque Boulevard East. This street is named after René Lévesque. He was a former leader of Quebec and used to work as a reporter for the CBC.

The building is close to other TV and radio studios. These include CTV Montreal (CFCF-DT), RDS, RDS Info, MétéoMédia, LCN, and CFTM-DT (TVA Montreal). They are all near the intersection of Papineau Avenue.

The main building for CBC's English networks is in Toronto. It is called the Canadian Broadcasting Centre. The main offices for the CBC, for both French and English services, are in Ottawa.

Getting to Maison Radio-Canada

You can easily reach the building by walking from Beaudry Station. This is a stop on the Montreal Metro subway system.

Before Maison Radio-Canada was built, a working-class neighborhood called Faubourg à m'lasse was there. A working-class neighborhood is where many people who work in factories or similar jobs live. Most of the houses in this area had to be taken down. On October 1, 1963, the last house was emptied. This made way for the new building to be constructed.

Exciting Plans for the Area

Since 2008, there have been talks about making the area around Maison Radio-Canada new and modern.

The new plans for the eastern part of the site are very exciting. They include building 2000 new homes. There will also be new offices, shops, and public spaces. This new development will be at 1450 René Lévesque Boulevard East. It will cover about three city blocks.

The new plan will also reconnect the streets that were removed in the 1960s. This was when the old neighborhood, Faubourg à m'lasse, was cleared for the Radio-Canada complex.

In May 2015, the project was paused. But it started again in November 2016. A company called Broccolini Group was chosen to build the new building. Another company, Groupe Mach, will take over the old building. They plan to change it for new uses. The whole project is expected to be finished in 2020.
