Maite Carranza Gil-Dolz del Castellar, born on February 25, 1958, is a Spanish writer and teacher. She mainly writes in Catalan, a language spoken in Spain. Maite Carranza has won many important awards for her books and TV shows. These include the Premio Crítica Serra d'Or, the TP de Oro award, the Premio Ondas award, and the Spanish National Prize for Children's and Juvenile Literature.

About Maite Carranza

Maite Carranza was born in Barcelona, Spain. She studied anthropology at university, finishing her studies in 1980. After that, she taught in high schools for ten years.

Her First Books

Maite Carranza published her first book, Ostres, tu, quin cacau!, in 1986. This book won the Premio Crítica Serra d'Or award. This award is given for excellent children's and young adult literature.

One of her most famous series is Trilogía de las Brujas, which means 'Trilogy of Witches'. This popular series has been translated into more than twenty different languages around the world. In 1999, she wrote her first book for adults, Sin invierno. This was also her first book written in Spanish.

Writing for Television

In the 1990s, Maite Carranza studied Audiovisual Writing. This helped her learn how to write for TV and movies. In 1992, she started writing scripts for television shows.

She has written many successful soap operas for TV3, a TV channel in Catalonia. Some of these shows include Poble Nou, Secrets de família, and Nissaga de poder. Her show Poble Nou received the TP de Oro award. Another TV series she wrote, Pinnic [es], won a Premio Ondas award. Maite Carranza also began teaching screenwriting at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Important Awards and Themes

In 2011, Maite Carranza won the Spanish National Prize for Children's and Juvenile Literature [es]. She received this award for her novel Paraules emmetzinades, which means "Poisoned words". This book bravely explored a challenging topic for young readers. In 2014, she was honored with the Premi Cervantes Chico de literatura infantil i juvenil for all her work.
