Maksim Sergeyevich Kanunnikov was born on July 14, 1991. He is a former professional football player from Russia. He played as a forward, which means his main job was to score goals for his team.

Playing for Clubs
Maksim Kanunnikov started his journey in football with the youth team of Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2009. Soon after, he began training with the main team. He made his very first appearance in the Russian Premier League, Russia's top football league, on August 23, 2009. He came into the game as a substitute right at the end against Lokomotiv Moscow.
His first goal in the Russian Premier League came on May 10, 2010, when he scored against Amkar Perm.
Moving to Other Teams
On January 17, 2011, Kanunnikov was sent on a loan to Tom Tomsk. A "loan" in football means a player temporarily moves to another team for a period. He played for Tom Tomsk during the 2011–12 season.
Later, on March 2, 2018, he left Rubin Kazan. Both he and the club agreed to end his contract. Just a few days later, on March 7, 2018, he joined SKA-Khabarovsk. He played for them until the end of the 2017–18 season.
On July 27, 2018, Maksim signed a one-year contract with Krylia Sovetov Samara. He continued to play for Krylia Sovetov until the end of the 2021–22 season. After that, he left the club.
Playing for Russia
Maksim Kanunnikov also played for the Russia national football team. He made his first appearance for the national team on May 26, 2014. This was in a friendly game against Slovakia. A "friendly game" is a match played for practice, not as part of a competition. He came on as a substitute at half-time, replacing another player named Alan Dzagoev. Russia won that game 1–0.
World Cup Experience
On June 2, 2014, Maksim was chosen to be part of Russia's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This is a huge international football tournament. He played his first official World Cup game for Russia on June 22, against Belgium. He played the entire 90 minutes of the match, which took place at the famous Maracanã in Brazil. Russia lost that game 1–0.
