Malibu Rescue is a fun American comedy TV series. It was created by Savage Steve Holland and Scott McAboy for Netflix. The show first came out as a movie on May 13, 2019. Then, the first season with 8 episodes started on June 3, 2019. Because it was so popular, Netflix made a second movie called Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave. This movie premiered on August 4, 2020. The series stars Ricardo Hurtado, Jackie R. Jacobson, Abby Donnelly, Alkoya Brunson, and Breanna Yde.

Story of Malibu Rescue

The show is about a group of teenagers who become junior lifeguards in Malibu, California. They are known as the "Flounders."

The First Movie: Malibu Rescue

The story begins with Tyler Howard, a teenager from the San Fernando Valley. He gets into trouble at school. As punishment, his step-father, Roger, sends him to a summer program called Junior Rescue in Malibu Beach. This program teaches kids how to be lifeguards.

Tyler thinks it will be an easy summer at the beach. But he soon finds out Junior Rescue is a lot of hard work! He meets other kids on his bus: Gina, who is athletic and sarcastic; Lizzie, who is smart and witty; and Eric, who is not very athletic but always tells the truth. They also meet Dylan, their clumsy but kind captain at Junior Rescue.

Tyler quickly makes a rival, Brody, another captain who doesn't like kids from the Valley. Tyler tries to get kicked out of the program by causing trouble. But when he sees his team, the "Flounders," working together, he starts to change his mind.

The program leader, Garvin, wants to kick the Valley kids out. He tries to make things hard for the Flounders. But the team works together and gets better at their training. They even save a boy named Jeffy from a dangerous situation at the pier.

In the end, the Flounders prove themselves to be brave heroes. The Mayor, who turns out to be Jeffy's father, is very thankful. He makes Garvin give the Flounders their own lifeguard tower. Tyler's step-father, Roger, is very proud of him. The Flounders are ready to enjoy their summer as real junior lifeguards!

Season 1 Adventures

After getting their tower, the Flounders face new challenges.

• Episode 1: Fresh Off the Bus

The team starts their first day as real junior lifeguards. Brody, their rival, gives them all the worst jobs. Tyler plans a prank, but it goes wrong. Dylan saves Brody, and he promises to stop giving them bad assignments.

• Episode 2: Escape from Party Beach

The team tries to improve their reputation. They decide to throw a beach party with their bus driver friend, Vooch. Things get a bit wild, but Gina steps in and saves someone. The team slowly starts to be accepted.

• Episode 3: The Splash and the Furious

A rich donor gives the program jet skis. Garvin creates a sea patrol. Lizzie's mom won't sign her permission slip, so Eric lies to support Lizzie. Tyler and Gina take a jet ski without permission and get stuck. Lizzie pretends to be Eric to get on the sea patrol.

• Episode 4: Sand and Deliver

It's family day at Junior Rescue. Tyler's mom and stepsister Sasha visit. Gina's family doesn't come. Eric and Lizzie pretend to be a couple to their parents. Tyler helps his mom when she goes into labor in an outhouse at sea! Everyone's family relationships grow stronger.

• Episode 5: Stranger Flings

Dylan tries to raise awareness about sea turtles. Gina stops a boy, Chote Pavey, from harming them. Chote throws a party for the lifeguards. Dylan feels embarrassed because her mom is the taco server. Gina saves Chote's life after he falls off a cliff.

• Episode 6: With a Little Kelp from My Friends

The Flounders are named "Tower of the Week." Tyler and Eric are invited to a secret society run by Garvin. They have to share secrets. Dylan, Gina, Lizzie, and Logan find out about the society. They expose it, and Garvin gets fired.

• Episode 7: Pier Pressure

Thornton Pavey replaces Garvin as director. He seems nicer. Logan, Brody's friend, becomes friends with Dylan. A man sneaks into their tower and takes pictures. Thornton sets up the Flounders to look bad and kicks them out. Logan gets their tower.

• Episode 8: Every Rose Has Its Thornton

The team and Logan suspect Thornton. They sneak into his house and discover he plans to blow up a tower and blame them. The Flounders stop Thornton and his plan. Thornton is arrested. Roger becomes the new head of the program. Eric and Lizzie share their first kiss.

The Second Movie: Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave

A year later, the Flounders are back! Roger now leads the Junior Rescue program. Malibu is hosting the International Junior Rescue Competition. Tyler sneaks Eric out of summer school so he can join the team.

The Flounders are supposed to serve food to the competing teams. Tyler gets annoyed with Team USA and puts expired coleslaw in their food. This sends Team USA to the hospital! With no Team USA, Roger thinks they can't win. Tyler decides the Flounders should take Team USA's place to save the program, which is in danger of being shut down due to low sign-ups.

The Flounders train hard, led by Gina. They face Team Aussie (Australia), who mock them. During a training exercise, the Aussies save a drowning couple, showing a strong rivalry.

The team faces challenges, and Tyler admits he caused Team USA's food poisoning. He feels bad and leaves the team for a bit. Brody encourages Tyler not to give up. The team makes up and gets ready for the competition.

Sasha, Tyler's stepsister, tricks the Aussies into getting trapped in a cargo container. But the container is taken away by a truck! The Flounders chase the truck on the freeway. They manage to stop the truck and rescue the Aussies.

Back at the beach, the Flounders race against Australia. Tyler gets hurt but finishes the race with his team's help. Because of their amazing rescue on the freeway, many kids want to join Junior Rescue. The program is saved!
